Now that HIM are officially “over” and the anger is almost over too, we can start to realizing why a Ville Valo solo career makes sense.

For many, the recent engagement with Christel Karhu might sounds like a Yoko Ono deja vu. They might be right, because when John met Yoko Ono, the band (Beatles) relationship started going downhill and John was left alone from the band. John then started his solo career. Anyway we don’t think that Christel has something to do with Ville’s artistic career, she’s very young and very into her modeling job so we think she has no say in the matter. It’s much more an artistic matter.

A solo career gives more freedom, and more time. It's just perfect if Ville wants to have a family, babies or just some quality time with his Christel. The recent february 2017 trip to New York is a perfect example.

We will never know why really the HIM band split-up, but what we might know is that Ville Valo still wants to make music. His first solo project “Olet Mun Kauluotain” got almost 2 mln views in a few months on YouTube, and won an Emma Gaala too, pretty impressive considering that HIM - Into The Night video got 1,7 mln views (but in 3 years!). Same numbers also for the mesmerizing "Knowing Me Knowing You" with the great Mark Gemini Thwaite.

And what about the Summerwine cover back in 2006? That was a real surprise and a massive hit for the Ville Valo's (or Johnny Depp) solo career back in the day! The Summerwine video has now almost 12 million views on YouTube now. That single was huge in the whole europe and probably in US too!

Ville Valo, with his ABBA cover Knowing Me Knowing You, and Olet Mun Kauluotain single and video (and also with his previous attempts) reminded us that there is still some beauty in this world and if he wants, he has the skills to start again from scratch easily even without his band.

Probably Ville thought that “HIM” as a band are a thing of the past, now that he’s in his 40s it’s time to discover new things, sounds and probably use many of the unused lyrics and sounds that might not have suited the HIM love metal genre. Scroll at the end of the article to enjoy the little "hint" he left us in his Facebook Page.

Ville during his HIM career got contacts and friendships from all over the world, so we don’t have any doubt he will be able to gather collaborators, musicians and so on in order to continue with his solo project/s.

A Ville’s friend has embarked on a career very similar to what we believe Ville will take: Jonne Aaron, Negative’s frontman. Negative are on hold since 2011, and Jonne already made two solo album and one single (and many other collaborations)

Interpol’s frontman, Paul Banks, one of Ville’s favorite band, started a solo project a few years ago. Banks released a solo album under the name Julian Plenti on 4 August 2009 entitled Julian Plenti Is... Skyscraper and other albums. He’s even going to collaborate with the legend rapper RZA on a joint album.

There are many other examples, of much more famous artists, but we wanted to pick just two artist very close to Ville.

HIM real break-up has been since 2010

After Screamworks we started having less tours and the album frequency started decreasing. The quality was still very high though, but not the album sales. We remember Ville complained many times about album sales in this article (thank god we still have the HIMI archive): https://hisinfernalmajestyitaly.forumfree.it/?t=47684956

Many die-hard fans complained about the lack of creativity from the band during their live gigs: same setlists. From 2010 to 2017 there has been many long breaks from the band, but we got at least one album at least (plus one remix album and some re-issues). Many questioned if Ville himself believed in this band or it was just the same routine for him.

Gas injury puts a strain on the band in 2011-2012. We think during this time the band really was in danger for a break-up. But eventually Ville had enough patience for the Gas recovery, new album and new tour.

After Tears On Tape and the legendary Tears on Tour, where the band also performed in Latin America we had another long break of silence, and then we suffered all of a sudden the Gas departure from the band.

At first, we though that “Rambo Rimbaud”, with his two live songs at the last Helldone, was the Ville Valo side project parallel with HIM. But instead we realized that Rambo Rimbaud was just a joke (at QStock Rambo was scheduled but HIM played instead).

Then a “Ville Valo Virallinen” Facebook page appeared. A YouTube channel and Vevo too. Then the official split-up from the band.

We think the band split-up means a serious solo project for Ville and probably just some HIM reunions in the future, after the farewell tour. Ville is already working to let the creativity flow, an example is the Downward Spiral videogame.
A solo project will bring new life to a man that was probably “fossilized” on the love metal genre since he was basically a kid. We had a glimpse Olet Mun Kauluotain of how beautiful the next sonic years are going to be for us.

    Where are we now?

Midway upon the journey of our life
I found myself within a forest dark
For the straightforward pathway had been lost.

Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy - Inferno, Canto I

Ville is our modern days Dante. Midway, mid-life (midlife is considered 40 years, just like Ville's age). He now found himself, but the forest it's dark. Let's take this journey...
