The 40-year-old singer, Ville Valo, played HIM on Saturday night for the first and last time an open-air concert in Helsinki when she got to the Tuska festival stage in Suvilahti. MTV met Valo Tuskan backstage.

One of Finland's most successful internationals, HIM, announced in March that it will end. The band is now playing their final concerts, but it is not yet known where it will be seen last time.

    - My profound personal wish is that the last song of HIM would belong to the Tavastia Club stage on the first day of next year, but it will be visible, Ville Valo says.

Valo believes that the last gigs can play more relaxed than in the past. Now you do not need to think about the following projects or discs anymore.

    - It's nice that now, in a way, I can sing to respect it for a quarter of a century and be between drops in the lens, no.

The ending with HIM is not a particularly sensitive rock music veteran, which implies that making a return to the band will not be closed in the future.

    - It must be remembered that this life will not end or the music will end. These five types do not just call again under the same name. But I do not know, since reunions were invented, Valo says.

    Success all over the world
HIM is the first Finnish band whose album has sold gold in the United States. The trick succeeded in the 2005 album, Dark Light, which has sold nearly a million copies in the US.

The farewell tour is promising material from different stages of the band from the first 1996 EP until the last album. HIM's last album, Tears on Tape, was released in 2014.

    - We have the pleasure and the honor that different discs are taken in a bit different way depending on the place. It may well be that some albums are playing in America, while others in Europe.

HIM in Bucharest on July 1,

In recent years, light has published solos and has been involved in various collaborative projects. Still, he does not think what HIM should do exactly when it's finished.

    - I guess a lot of music, but it's not time to think about it, but focus on this HIM. Then when this burden is out of the back then you can take quite new challenges forward.

    - It's not worth staying in place, it's for me doctors recommended, Light laughs.

In his mind, the goals have remained the same as they were 25 years ago. You can always make better music and gigs bigger.

At least you can try to lie to yourself that it is possible.

More than half of life in HIM
Ville Valo has known some of the members of the band since the age of 10. More than a quarter of a century, HIM has been present in the lives of over 40-year-olds in the rock star.

It's hard to tell how the band's life has changed her. Because in the years between teenage age and adulthood every person changes, was in the band or not.

    - I guess it has got in the middle of a piss, and then you have been asked by your friends to tap the gently passage that it will piss from there by ear to your lorisisi country. Then, again, a bit healthier, and can focus on the essentials rather than on oneself.

Valo tells us to be grateful to their faithful and patient fans. He has a simple message for them.

    - I hope the music was good and that was enough.

Almost one year and a half ago, we reported the news that Ville Valo was selling his famous tower for the astonishing price of 2.6 millions. It turns out that after all this time, Ville still has to find a buyer. In the meantime the price has been lowered by 310k dollars.

Crape.fi is no more the realtor, since Ville Valo decided to choose bulevardinkotimeklarit.fi, which made new exclusive photos of the house (including a surprising underground pool. Have a look of the most interesting parts of Ville's tower (for example the TOT pattern bathroom flooring), which was once the one and only HIM fans "Mecca".

Now that HIM are officially “over” and the anger is almost over too, we can start to realizing why a Ville Valo solo career makes sense.

For many, the recent engagement with Christel Karhu might sounds like a Yoko Ono deja vu. They might be right, because when John met Yoko Ono, the band (Beatles) relationship started going downhill and John was left alone from the band. John then started his solo career. Anyway we don’t think that Christel has something to do with Ville’s artistic career, she’s very young and very into her modeling job so we think she has no say in the matter. It’s much more an artistic matter.

    iskelma_gaala_ville_valo_ja_christel_karhu_01netti_0

A solo career gives more freedom, and more time. It's just perfect if Ville wants to have a family, babies or just some quality time with his Christel. The recent february 2017 trip to New York is a perfect example.

We will never know why really the HIM band split-up, but what we might know is that Ville Valo still wants to make music. His first solo project “Olet Mun Kauluotain” got almost 2 mln views in a few months on YouTube, and won an Emma Gaala too, pretty impressive considering that HIM - Into The Night video got 1,7 mln views (but in 3 years!). Same numbers also for the mesmerizing "Knowing Me Knowing You" with the great Mark Gemini Thwaite.

And what about the Summerwine cover back in 2006? That was a real surprise and a massive hit for the Ville Valo's (or Johnny Depp) solo career back in the day! The Summerwine video has now almost 12 million views on YouTube now. That single was huge in the whole europe and probably in US too!

    jpg

Ville Valo, with his ABBA cover Knowing Me Knowing You, and Olet Mun Kauluotain single and video (and also with his previous attempts) reminded us that there is still some beauty in this world and if he wants, he has the skills to start again from scratch easily even without his band.

Probably Ville thought that “HIM” as a band are a thing of the past, now that he’s in his 40s it’s time to discover new things, sounds and probably use many of the unused lyrics and sounds that might not have suited the HIM love metal genre. Scroll at the end of the article to enjoy the little "hint" he left us in his Facebook Page.

Ville during his HIM career got contacts and friendships from all over the world, so we don’t have any doubt he will be able to gather collaborators, musicians and so on in order to continue with his solo project/s.

    17264821_1417690224949103_3539889195365246261_n

A Ville’s friend has embarked on a career very similar to what we believe Ville will take: Jonne Aaron, Negative’s frontman. Negative are on hold since 2011, and Jonne already made two solo album and one single (and many other collaborations)

Interpol’s frontman, Paul Banks, one of Ville’s favorite band, started a solo project a few years ago. Banks released a solo album under the name Julian Plenti on 4 August 2009 entitled Julian Plenti Is... Skyscraper and other albums. He’s even going to collaborate with the legend rapper RZA on a joint album.

There are many other examples, of much more famous artists, but we wanted to pick just two artist very close to Ville.

HIM real break-up has been since 2010

After Screamworks we started having less tours and the album frequency started decreasing. The quality was still very high though, but not the album sales. We remember Ville complained many times about album sales in this article (thank god we still have the HIMI archive): https://hisinfernalmajestyitaly.forumfree.it/?t=47684956

Many die-hard fans complained about the lack of creativity from the band during their live gigs: same setlists. From 2010 to 2017 there has been many long breaks from the band, but we got at least one album at least (plus one remix album and some re-issues). Many questioned if Ville himself believed in this band or it was just the same routine for him.

Gas injury puts a strain on the band in 2011-2012. We think during this time the band really was in danger for a break-up. But eventually Ville had enough patience for the Gas recovery, new album and new tour.

After Tears On Tape and the legendary Tears on Tour, where the band also performed in Latin America we had another long break of silence, and then we suffered all of a sudden the Gas departure from the band.

At first, we though that “Rambo Rimbaud”, with his two live songs at the last Helldone, was the Ville Valo side project parallel with HIM. But instead we realized that Rambo Rimbaud was just a joke (at QStock Rambo was scheduled but HIM played instead).

Then a “Ville Valo Virallinen” Facebook page appeared. A YouTube channel and Vevo too. Then the official split-up from the band.

We think the band split-up means a serious solo project for Ville and probably just some HIM reunions in the future, after the farewell tour. Ville is already working to let the creativity flow, an example is the Downward Spiral videogame.
A solo project will bring new life to a man that was probably “fossilized” on the love metal genre since he was basically a kid. We had a glimpse Olet Mun Kauluotain of how beautiful the next sonic years are going to be for us.

    Where are we now?

Midway upon the journey of our life
I found myself within a forest dark
For the straightforward pathway had been lost.

Dante Alighieri, The Divine Comedy - Inferno, Canto I

Ville is our modern days Dante. Midway, mid-life (midlife is considered 40 years, just like Ville's age). He now found himself, but the forest it's dark. Let's take this journey...

    HIM1

After 26 years of Love Metal, Ville Valo, Mikko "Mige" Paananen, Mikko "Linde" Lindström, Janne "Burton" Puurtinen and the new arrival Jukka "Kosmo" Kröger called it a day. According to Valo's statement on the website, the "official" reason for the break up is the following:

After quarter of a century of Love and Metal intertwined we sincerely feel HIM has run its unnatural course and adieus must be said in order to make way for sights, scents and sounds yet unexplored. We completed the pattern, solved the puzzle and turned the key. Thank you.

    Financial Problems

Probably Ville wasn't satisfied with the current financial status of the HIM project. A band is an investment after all, they need to make profits in order to buy the toilet paper and have a roof on the top of their heads (like Ville said) and not long ago we stated that the band ran into some financial troubles. So probably the profits (I mean, no tour and albums = no cash in) weren't enough to pay the shareholders (members of the band) plus the management.

    Side Projects

Ville, in the official statement said that they want to find sounds yet unexplored. Well, this seems much more an excuse since he had plenty of time this summer (and many other) to do that, but instead he trolled us another time with the Rambo Rimbaud farce. Anyway (even if the skills of any member is without any doubt remarkable) we don't think that outside of the HIM band there is any room for an equal or greater follow. They are all over 40 and maybe it's a little too late for something completely new. The band also has accustomed us during the years to many new and yet unexplored sounds (for example: SW was much more pop than rock or metal) so we don't really buy the official statement.

Just to give you an example of how massive the HIM fanbase is: the HIM band Facebook page has 1,734,573 followers while the Ville Valo Virallinen (Ville's personal facebook page) page has just a little over 33k. Daniel Lioneye (Linde's side project) has just 20k followers.

    Just a very long vacation?

So in the end, Ville, the real brain and heart of the band, just wants to relax in his new house with his new girl and maybe even make some babies too, without being under pressure. When your are in a band of worldwide proportions like HIM you need to tour, write new songs and so on... And maybe he isn't really ready and made for being under pressure, he's never been like that. He's in his 40s and probably he realized he, as every human being at a certain age, is in the desperate need of stability, and before the comeback he needs to live a normal life and a normal family.

Ville has always been very demanding (and therefore slow in the last years) in terms of songwriting and creating the actual songs, so probably the album that should have been released this year (after being postponed in 2016) was still far from perfection. This might also be one of the reason.

    The other members

HIM is not just Ville Valo. Every other member has his own life and family and must pay his own bills. So probably there has been some internal conflicts related to the slowness of the frontman, probably amplified by the early departure from Gas? We'll never know, but this is probably one of the most unlikely options, since there has always been a fraternal spirit in a band which is more than a family for them (and many of us). They would have canceled the farewell tour if there was some conflict inside the band, and this is not the case.

We should have expected a break up

This was in the air... But it's like when you're lost into someone so much that you lose every perception of the outside, of what's really going on.

Many people in the HIM fanbase are now mourning this break up. Nobody was expecting it because we always thought HIM were an unbreakable family. But shit happens, nothing lasts forever... We had many signs in the past 10 years but we didn't really care about all these reminders. Maybe it's too late, maybe not. But please let's express ourselves in the farewell tour, let's show them what kind of of fanbase we are. They deserve it.

This year, the news of the HIM break-up was certainly the worst news ever we could possibly hear from the band.
But during these years we experienced many other bad news (among the long moments of silence from the band, broken promises form the man itself for a new album and so on) that probably led to the final goodbye from our love metallers. We'll let's take a journey in this gloomy (and doomy) sea of emptiness.

Ville and Jonna Nygren Break-Up 2006

A sad/happy day for many fans. This break-up back in the day has been certainly brutal for the two. https://hisinfernalmajestyitaly.forumfree.it/?t=70992456

    Ville Valo Rehab 2007

The most delicate phase of his life. He spent almost 1 month in the Promises rehab centre in LA in order to solve his problems with alcohol. https://hisinfernalmajestyitaly.forumfree.it/?t=38192258

    Yoshiaki "Aki" Takayama Death 2010

Ville has always been an huge fan and friend of the Yoshiaki "Aki" Takayama restaurant Kabuki in Helsinki. They even played a private gig back in the day. When Aki disappeared, it was certainly a tragic moment for the band. In 2011, also a close friend and producer of the band passed away: TT Oksala. https://hisinfernalmajestyitaly.forumfree.it/?t=46426916

HIM Part Ways with Sire Records 2011

After 6 years and a 500k copies album (Dark Light), HIM decided to part ways with their former laber "Sire Records" (a Warner Bros Division). https://hisinfernalmajestyitaly.forumfree.it/?t=54810184

    Heartagram.com shuts down 2012

Heartagram.com was a centre for the HIM fanbase. It had a shop, bios, board, videos and much more features. In 2012 it turned into a static web page with just some basic info about the band. http://hisinfernalmajestyitaly.forumfree.i...=57525697&st=90

    US Tour 2013 Canceled

During the Tears On Tour (US Leg) Ville was Diagnosed With 'Severe Asthma With Presumptive Pneumonia'. The band had to cancel their tour. https://hisinfernalmajestyitaly.forumfree.it/?t=66406344

    Gas left the band 2014

Gas leaving the band has probably been one of the worst news for every HIM fan. After a wrist injury the band decided to wait for his convalescence. After a long Tears on Tour, he decided anyway to part ways from the band. Ville said that he "Kind of like one limb being torn off". https://hisinfernalmajestyitaly.forumfree.it/?t=70227653

    Ville sold his tower 2015

A "mecca" for every HIM fan. Ville decided then to move in a new home with a studio on the ground floor. This raised some hopes for a new album in many fans, but apparently it didn't help. https://hisinfernalmajestyitaly.forumfree.it/?t=71794379

HIM Latest Financial Statement: profits are in deep red 2016

After 26 years of amazing albums, countless gigs, millions of fans all over the world, HIM decided to part ways. We respect their decision, the long silence of the last years was certainly a warning, but as a fanclub we are certainly shocked and emotionally fucked up for what's going on right now. But please remember, this doesn't mean that Love Metal is dead, we are pretty sure it will just born again in many different forms and projects and of course live forever through all the songs in these years.

At HIMI, we truly believe this is a new beginning. And don't worry, there is a farewell tour to celebrate these 26 years, hoping for another 26+6+6 of love metal or whatever it will be.

Just to quote a certain guy in 1995, This is only the beginning.

Official announcement (credit to HIM fb page):

    HIM ANNOUNCE FAREWELL TOUR
LOVE METAL LEGENDS HIT THE ROAD FOR THE LAST TIME THIS YEAR
Following a long radio silence, Finnish rock giants HIM have announced a farewell tour, closing the final chapter on their 26 year career.
"After quarter of a century of Love and Metal intertwined we sincerely feel HIM has run its unnatural course and adieus must be said in order to make way for sights, scents and sounds yet unexplored. We completed the pattern, solved the puzzle and turned the key. Thank you." Says frontman Ville Valo
Formed in 1991 by vocalist Ville Valo, guitarist Mikko “Linde” Lindström and bassist Mikko "Migé" Paananen, HIM truly stand out as one of the rock world’s most unique acts. Beautifully blending metal, goth and hard rock with deep, thoughtful and moving lyrics, HIM offered the world a new take on the metal genre, which became known as Love Metal (also the title of their fourth album).
Over the course of eight studio albums, HIM captured the hearts and minds of fans across the globe, drawn by their irresistible and inimitable style. Under the banner of their Heartagram logo – a potent symbol encapsulating the juxtaposition of the light and dark, the fierce and forlorn, and the evil and love found in their music - HIM filled venues and crashed charts the world over, collecting numerous awards, gracing countless magazine covers and becoming the first Finnish act to achieve Gold status in the USA.
Now, four years after the release of their last studio album ‘Tears On Tape’, HIM are saying farewell, taking in 14 countries across 35 shows for their final goodbye.
"At the end of 2017 we will be released into the wild.” Says bassist Mige. “Before this event of great transformation we would love to offer you one last chance to experience our live performances in His Majesty's service. It shall not be a weepfest but a celebration of love metal in all its lovecraftian glory! See you there!"
